Don Nielson stands in the back of the van he helped to create 30 years ago. At the time, Nielson was the head of the packet radio network project at SRI International, which stocked the van with radio packets, microcomputers, and more. The radio packet network was the very first mobile digital network, and a precursor to all the wireless networks today, including Wi-Fi.
