Founded in 1999, Mindtree reckons it will be in the top 20 global companies, with $231 million in revenue by 2007. This song takes it straight to the top of the IT Anthems heap with one mighty cringe.

Mindtree: Imagination, Action, Joy

The song makes me heave like Michael Jackson's We are the World. But, let's hold on. The "special children" are spastics -- cerebral palsy sufferers -- and Mindtree makes a big thing of its efforts to help them.

The company even went to the extent of having its logo designed by a spastic. Where other companies pay expensive design consultants to come up with useless images, Mindtree approached ten children at the Spastics Society of Karnataka and chose one image from their work -- apparently to embody its values: imagination, action, joy.

Social responsibility, or hypocritical publicity stunt? You decide. "One of the founders has genuine feelings for these kids, but most of the guys are phoney - just using it for marketing purposes," said one source.

But another long-time Mindtree employee has a different view: "This is a grass roots effort," he said. "The song may be a little hokey, but it represents the company." As well as its good works in India, Mindtree supports the Lake View School in Middlesex County, New Jersey, and other institutions round the world.

Mindtree's website explains that the company gives a percentage of its profits to primary education in every country where it is established.

Like we say -- you decide. And we hope that IT Anthems readers, whether you do it quietly or sing dodgy songs about it, are doing your bit for your community, too.
