After last week's full-on anthem from Fujitsu we present, for contrast, a more low-key production. This is the ironic, home-made Scandinavian approach from the Norwegian engineering company, Computas.

The song is apparently based on the 1962 pop hit, Tell Him, originally recorded by The Exciters (and produced by by the great Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller). This version, by members of the Computas staff, is perhaps one of the more eccentric versions recorded since then.

The first live performance was at a Christmas party in 1999 (hence the Millennium reference), when every employee was given the song on a CD -- surely a much treasured momento.

Despite the song's origin, this production has something of a Eurovision vibe. Memories of Abba led us to re-locate Computas to Sweden in earlier versions of this page. Apologies to Computas for that!

And many thanks to Red Tunic Troll for telling us about the Exciters.

Lyrics

Knowledge Mangement by Computas

We know, we got what it takes
To hit the turbo phase
It's just a matter of time
Before we loose the breaks
We are ready to go
Sky's no limit you know
If you're ready to win
We'll make sure you're in

Chorus
Share your knowledge - is the future
Share your knowledge - is the culture
Share your knowledge - we'll be in charge

Come on, knowledge management rules
That's the business tool
We will, we will be in the front
Customers will know
Where they all should go
We will give them the show
Take them to the top
If they're with our shop

Chorus
Share your knowledge - is the future
Share your knowledge - is the culture
Share your knowledge - we'll be in charge

Ever since we were born
It happened '85
Hard work - been creative
It's gonna happen for us now
A new millenium
We are here to staaaaaaayyyy-eee-hay

Chorus
Share your knowledge - is the future
Share your knowledge - is the culture
Share your knowledge - we'll be in charge

It's time, time to reach for the moon
Shares and stocks are cool
This time they will play by our rules...
And that's a lovely tune.
Competition is gone,
We'll be the number one.
That's where we belong
Listen to our song

Chorus
Share your knowledge - is the future
Share your knowledge - is the culture
Share your knowledge - we'll be in charge

Repeat chorus and fade

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
