Boston-based company Tenebraex has captured attention for its technology that brings a range of colours to monochromatic night-vision goggles. In addition, its EyePilot software can help colour-blind people see things in colour-rich applications that they couldn't see before.

Tenebraex is in talks with phone manufacturers to put EyePilot on mobile phones that can work in conjunction with a phone's camera to identify real-life colours. Anyone with a colour deficiency could just point and click to find out if what looks like a green necktie, say, is truly green. It would also offer a discreet way for colour-blind people to read things such as colour-coded subway or bus maps while on the go.
